What to Expect During the First Visit

Many people are apprehensive when they visit a chiropractor for the very first time because they are unsure of what to expect. All they may know is that a chiropractor examines your back and makes you feel better. But that's only a small portion of what a chiropractor does and there should be an initial intake process, before a chiropractor even lays a hand on the patient for treatment.

Why did you seek out the chiropractor in the first place? Does your body ache? Where? What are the factors that led you to seek out treatment? Was it stress? Poor posture? A sport injury? A personal injury? An auto accident? Any of these things can stop the body from running smoothly and almost any aspect of health might be affected by problems in the spine

A chiropractor looks at your whole body and tries to determine what, if anything is creating the pain you feel. If a joint is misaligned or damaged, then the body cannot run smoothly and can be upset, causing inflammation, pressure on nerves and other future problems

So what happens during your first visit? Like any other medical professional, chiropractors have to make an assessment of your health. They check your posture, mobility of joints and often take a lifestyle assessment. They test the mobility in your hip joints and flex your legs one at a time to assess joints for sprains and mobility. A chiropractor will take as many tests, x-rays and physical tests to build the best picture he can about a patient's health.

While chiropractors focus primarily on back and spine problems, they are able to aid with other disorders, diseases and ailments such as:

  • Vehicle Accident Injuries
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Upper Back Pain
